Pickup and The Placebo Effect

 Hey there,

The placebo effect happens when in experiments a group of people are given a sugar pill but told that it will help them with anxiety, depression, etc...

Amazingly the vast majority of people who take the placebo improve despite the fact that the medicine didn't really do anything.

You can read more about that here: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=placebo-effect-a-cure-in-the-mind

The placebo effect also plays a huge role in pickup and dating advice.

If you believe that what you are doing is going to work, you're chances increase exponentially.

In fact in lots of cases (like students getting laid on workshop) just feeling like they "know what to do" will lead to success.

Now this is not to say that there is no value in pick up advice. Clearly some things like knowing how to tease a girl, keep the conversation going, escalate, are important. But I would venture to guess that the overall boost of confidence from first discovering this stuff is more powerful than all the techniques combined.

Therefore the question about game shifts from, what is the most effective technique, to how can I feel like I know the most effective technique in order to engage the placebo effect.

Food for thought

Placebo effect is the only reason why Ross Jeffries' 'techniques' ever work.

Also, write something about Robin Hood & PUA if you don't mind.

Fake it 'til you make it. It's been the key for me from the beginning.

dont do going out solo... please! Its such an easy idea.. its called get out your comfort zone. It will be weird at first but once you get through it it will become normal. Then its like exercising the more you do it the more normal and easy it becomes. Start small and build up - start by standing in a bar by yourself. Then next time stand in a bar by yourself and look and smile at a girl. The next time say hi and walk off. Then try adding more and more time each time you speak to a girl. In no time you'll be havin 5, 10, 30, 2 hour long conversations.

Specific types of girls while not my ideal topic is prob the most useful - specifically cultural diversity, how to tease and relate to girls from different cultures and countries. The more tailormade the pick up is the better. What if she's brazilian vs. Italian vs. French. Specific teases.

    Thanks for the value.

There can never be enough discussion about Robin Hood. He is the epitome of pick-up; a good looking rogue who plays by his own set of rules...and he always gets the girl in the end.

Do you guys know Cajun? He originally modeled himself on the Errol Flynn version of Robin Hood, and he credits it with starting him on the path to success.

The placebo effect, I've experienced it in the beginning and was much more successful than I am right now.

Sinn, do you have a solution in mind or is it just an open question right now?

    @idiot above

Dude. We don't want to read advice about going out solo from some random guy that may be sitting at home and jerking off all day.

That is also message for all the douches out here who want also share their wisdom.

We don't know what your words are worth so shut up.

Yeah asshole. We know about getting out of your comfort zone. We want to know about how to deal with lack of social circle when going solo, getting motivated to approach. Should we immediately approach and always stay in sets we've opened, etc... Going out solo is a great topic Sinn. And thank you. Alos, I like the positivity of this post. I think more of this and less "David D's dating advice sucks", "Style's a fraud" or "Matador's a broken sick individual" is what this blog needs. Cheers.

Going out solo is the best subject since most of us here don't have friends.

This is actually a good post. You should do more like this that inspires inner confidence and having us rely less on techniques.

Jon already talked about ways to stay motivated and immediately approach. Its called switch off your GAY excuse master (GEM), get fired up and go balls out and go straight in. Whether you're alone or with others whats the difference?

Fuck it, I'm just making it known what I prefer and thats my opinion, maybe if I speak my mind others will be glad I did and might agree with me, rather than being overuled by possibly a few people who happen to be more vocal. Will see what happens with the polls, and am glad that Jon is providing people with free info regardless if specifically useful in the maximum way possible for me!! Cheers.

I do feel I should point out the 'placebo effect', as discussed here, technically only relates to relief of pain. The effect itself can be seen in many areas as you've mentioned, but a 'placebo effect' can only be seen with pain relief, strictly speaking.

Dude, if you are paying tuition for a psychology degree and they didn't mention this, I would not be thrilled.
