In my passion for sports I have not commented on one of last week's biggest stories, of former Orlando Magic center John Amaechi's coming out of the closet.
I didn't comment because statistically with around 350 players in the NBA, you gotta figure that about 1/5 is gay based on generally accepted rates of homosexuality.
I further thought it was a non issue as Amaechi was retired and was never more than a backup when he played. I think Amaechi if he wanted to strike a blow for gay rights should have come out while he was playing. He also wasn't an outstanding enough player to care about his sexual orientation. Michael jordan he was not. So if the guy wants to promote his new book by coming out of the closet, I think that should be met with the thud that it was met with...until Mr Hardaway decided on the Dan lebetard show to say he "hates gay people."
I think homophobia is a lot more rampant than any other kind of race/sexism. look at the recently pulled Snickers commercial. But in general I think most people are generally too selfish to be concerned in modern CITY living with anyone else's life.
So when Mr Hardaway who I enjoyed watching as part of Run T-M-C in Golden state and then in MIAMI! I mean talk about burying your head in the sand, and shooting any future life in acity in the foot. Miami is not an in the closet city. When Mr hardaway was interviewed by childhood friend Scoop Jackson Here and talked about how he still doesn't condone a gay lifestyle. I sincerely hope he has invested his money well because he will not get a job ever again. Nor should he.
As an athlete you have to realize that you should shut the fuck up. Tim Hardaway is obviously an idiot and a bigot. You went on a national radio show and said you hated a group of people. I am honestly appaled that there has been less of a call for this guy's head on a fucking plate. Remember what happened with John Rocker? And that was in an interview for print. Where it wasn't on air and heard instantly by a couple thousand people. There will forever be a record of this.... Unreal.
Athletes should not be role models because of shit like this. I only hope that because he is retired and has been for awhile that no kids will look up to him enough to think his way of thinking is anything less than what it is hate. He can take it back and offer lame ass "apologies" all he wants he is a bigot and given a chance and a place to spew hate he did.
Fuck you Tim Hardaway. I'm sorry I ever rooted for you.

I don't believe a thing Timmy says anymore. To me it's all image control.
ReplyDeleteHe has shown how ignorant some people are. He says he doesn't condone "what they do" or condone "their lifestyle".
Why is it not right?
What is it that they do that you don't condone? BE SPECIFIC. Let's actually get to the root of your hate. (and it is hate no matter how you try and spin it)
Is it sex with each other? Because two men having sex together does not mean they will be infected with AIDS or disease. A close friend of mine had that belief which caused him to be a homophobe.
Is it beacuse you think they are all pedophiles? The majority of pedophiles are straight people with families. Pedophilia is a seperate disease not related to or caused by homosexuality.
It's unfortunate his ignorance was socialized by his community growing up. And it continues to breed ignorance.
I hope his education of the gay community leads him to accept its entire culture. Because just like the black community, it is different. But that doesn't make it wrong.
I agree 100% his "apology" was the most pathetic thing I have ever heard.
ReplyDeleteI am censoring myself on the idea that I don't want to be sued for libel and I don't know the exact law on internet sources but it's a disgusting display of ignorance.
I think your point about different cultures is right on.
George Takei (Mr. Sulu) has a gret reply here:

I feel as if for some reason there's been a huge resurgence recently (say the last six months) of racism and bigotry in American culture. Michael Richards (against blacks), the Duke LAX case (against whites), this shit (against gays), Mel Gibson (against Jews).
What the fuck is going on in the world?
Who is considered the greatest warrior of all time? Achilles. The greatest conqueror of all time? Alexander the Great. Both of these Greeks (it's almost certain Achilles was real, while Alexander definitely was) had male lovers (Patroclus was Achilles' lover, not his cousin, as depicted in Troy).
ReplyDeleteWho here believes even Michael Jordan, Pele, Muhammad Ali, etc., will be anywhere near as famous at those two in 3,000 years?
So how does homosexuality make you 'soft'?
Side note: 20% homosexuality rate - kind of high IMO. Maybe that many if you include bisexuality.
For the past 2000 years Chinese philosophers have stated that we are all both male and female, both yin and yang. Then with modern advances in science we discover that they were right. Every man has estrogen in his system and every woman testosterone.
ReplyDeleteI think what is going on with Timmy is part of a bigger issue. It is the reason why we can never get along. It is what keeps this world from peace. It is what will eventually destroy us in the end.
I think it is important for people to know that there was a time in my life where I was very bigoted. I was raised very southern Baptist. Not only did people believe that humans had only been around for 4,000 years, but I would hear my youth pastor and even the preacher teach hate of Catholics and gays. This caused me to eventually leave that church because if you read the Bible... Jesus didn't hate anyone. At the time I didn't know what to think about gays, cause I didn't know any gays... but I did know a bunch really good hearted Catholics (ie my best friend). I got to thinking that God/Jesus wouldn't want you hate anyone (Gays, Muslims, Blacks, Whites, Jews, Catholics, etc)... it's not your place... leveling judgment is reserved for the Almighty on the Last Day.
I think religion is all well and good but it gets a lot of people like Timmy in a lot of trouble because they level judgment on people. A really wise Muslim man once told me, "If God waits my whole life to judge me... what gives you the right to judge me now?"
Later, I met gay guys and saw that they were just as cool as I was. They would even introduce me to their really hot girl friends. Then I was introduced to the community and it got me thinking about the tribal psychology part of it all (BTW I relate everything to PU nowadays). And I started to see what was really going on. These "feelings from God" could just be evolution saying that 40,000 years ago that guy was not an accepted member of your tribe. He was different. So he was outcast. 40,000 years later your brain gives you permission to be dick to gays all over again. This low value behavior was done by the beta's trying to keep the status quo. Also in the TMM you learn that Attraction is not a choice!!! You roll into set and flip her attraction switches and you take her home. If women cannot control who they attracted to... Who says men can control who they are attracted to? If the world were full of non-reactive mPUA's there would be no war, racism, or homophobia.
That’s why social programming is so fucked up. In short, I think closed mindedness by any person, religion or culture shows a lack of education. The more educated you are the more open minded you tend to be.

What the best sports blog on the InterWeb had to say about the whole Tim Hardaway fiasco:
ReplyDeletehttp://tags.deadspin.com/sports/tim-hardaway/
My personal favorite is first title:
"Tim Hardaway Only Wants Straight Men to See His Penis."
Sinn you sound young, im thinking early twenties, why else would you be so misinformed and politically correct. Gay men are 1.5% to 3 % tops lesbians less. Why anyone sees homosexuality as good for society shows just how powerful media propaganda is, gay men have a life expectancy of 43, they are riddled with disease, not just aids.
ReplyDeleteTo ANONYMOUS 12:48
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention "media propaganda".
The life expectancy for homosexuals of 42 years (your quote was off by a year) was founded and coined through the work of Paul Cameron. This outcome was then seized upon by anti-gay political groups who used it to lobby for anti-gay policy.
Guess what! Cameron's work is now WITHOUT merit and is REJECTED by the academic research community. Both the American Sociological Association and the Canadian Psychological Assocation have condemned Cameron for "consistent misinterpreted and misrepresented research on sexuality, homosexuality, and lesbianism."
Looks like you're the victim of political propaganda.
PS. Just so you come away with something, recent research has concluded that the average loss in expectation of life due to HIV or AIDs is at most 7 years for gay men in the US. Not quite the "20 years off your life" rule coined by Cameron and the works of Hoggs.
Anonymous 12:48
ReplyDeleteGay men are "riddled with disease." Way to make a broad generalization based on a false stereotype about a group of people. As far as homosexuals not being good for society goes, I was raised by a lesbian mother and her wife and I turned out great... So great actually that I don't have to spew anonymous hate over the internet.
Priest,
That was deep. Props
Anonymous is clearly a moron and a bigot.
ReplyDeleteanonymous here again-- look, thats the problem, who do you believe, I can see for myself that homo is no damn good for society, i dont need stats or studies, which can have bias, men putting there dicks up another mans ass is not "good" it may be natural, it may make them happy, but it is no good for society.
ReplyDeleteSinn why are you bigoted against bigots? discrimination is the height of sanity and civility, those who do not discriminate are the real morons.
Homosexuality is good for society in that it helps control population growth.
ReplyDeletePlus it means more women for us heterosexuals, and I cannot complain about that.
Anonymous: saying those who don't discriminate are morons is such a solid argument. That was sarcasm BTW. I think you have fully illustrated who the moron around here is.
Good post Sinn.
